Barrister Md. Yousuf Ali, Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh, has more than 15 years of professional experience in corporate and commercial litigation, international commercial arbitration, and related areas of law. He has represented clients in a number of institutional international commercial arbitrations administered by the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC), and under the Rules of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). He has also been engaged in an ad hoc arbitration conducted under the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules before the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) in The Hague, the Netherlands.
He is the Head of Chambers at Attorneys at Legal and Management Consultancy, a Dhaka-based law firm. His areas of practice in Bangladesh include writ matters involving administrative, tax, VAT and customs laws, labour law, and broader issues concerning the fundamental rights of citizens. He also practices as a Barrister-at-Law at Legis Chambers, London, United Kingdom. Previously, he served as an Arbitration Partner at HPL Plewka & Coll, a German boutique law firm with offices in Frankfurt, Dubai, London, Luxembourg, Vienna, Puerto Plata, and Dhaka.
Barrister Ali has also developed substantial experience and a strong professional reputation in company and admiralty jurisdiction. In addition to his corporate, commercial, and arbitration practice, he has handled a wide range of criminal matters, including cases involving complex questions of statutory interpretation and legal principles.
He holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in International Commercial Arbitration from the Europa Institute of the University of Saarland, Germany, an institution co-sponsored by the European Union for the development of professionals in international law, particularly in the fields of trade and investment. He obtained his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the University of Dhaka and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), University of Dhaka.
