Dr. Yulia Levashova is an independent arbitrator, expert and counsel in international
investment and commercial arbitration, and an Associate Professor at Nyenrode
Business University in the Netherlands. She acts as an arbitrator and advises
governments, investors, and international organizations on investment arbitration,
economic sanctions, and ESG and investor due-diligence obligations. She served as
observer to UNCITRAL Working Group III on ISDS reform.
Her core practice areas are investment arbitration, commercial arbitration, and
disputes involving economic sanctions and trade-control measures, with dedicated
strands on ESG and investor due-diligence obligations. She is a member of ICC
Netherlands, the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, and the LCIA.
Dr. Levashova is Director of the Dispute Prevention Programme at the Asia Pacific FDI
Network, with a particular focus on Central Asia. She sits on the arbitration panels of
the IAC (Astana) and of Kyrgyzstan, and is a member of the Expert Board of the Kyrgyz
Arbitration Court.
She has published extensively on investment law, including a monograph on fair and
equitable treatment and co-edited volumes on investment law, environmental
protection, and investor–State relations in a post-pandemic world. She is editor of
the Responsible Business, Regulatory Governance, and Compliance series at Wolters Kluwer.
