Tootsie Roll Industries Files Trademark Infringement Lawsuit Against Tootsi Impex

Confectionery giant Tootsie Roll Industries has taken legal action by filing a trademark infringement lawsuit in Illinois federal court against Tootsi Impex. The lawsuit alleges that Tootsi Impex has been using a name, Tootsi, that is confusingly similar to Tootsie Roll’s brand name to sell competing candy products.
The legal action comes more than 20 years after Tootsie Roll Industries opposed the defendant’s design mark application to use the name in Canada.
Tootsie Roll Industries is seeking legal redress for what it perceives as a violation of its intellectual property rights. The lawsuit aims to prevent Tootsi Impex from continuing to use the name Tootsi in a manner that could potentially cause confusion among consumers.
The case has been filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. The legal representation for Tootsie Roll Industries is being provided by the law firm Wolf Greenfield.
