Jared Solomon, the former vice president of leasing at Vornado Realty Trust, was sentenced to 11 years in federal prison for orchestrating a complex fraud scheme that defrauded his employer of more than $9.5 million over 14 years. The sentencing was handed down by U.S. District Judge Loretta A. Preska following Solomon’s conviction in April 2026 after a one-week jury trial.
Acting United States Attorney Sean S. Buckley announced the sentence, emphasizing the breach of trust Solomon committed. “For fourteen years, Jared Solomon abused the trust his employer placed in him, inventing brokers and stealing more than $9.5 million for services that were never performed,” Buckley stated. “This individual, as shown, took advantage of his position and used victims’ personally identifiable information. This will not be tolerated on any level.”
According to the indictment, court filings, and trial evidence, Solomon began the scheme in 2009 while working as a leasing agent at Vornado, later advancing to vice president of leasing. He fabricated commercial real estate broker companies and falsely claimed that these entities were owed broker fees or construction reimbursement expenses related to deals he managed.
In reality, no legitimate work had been performed by these fictitious brokers. Solomon caused Vornado to issue 17 payments totaling over $9.5 million to bank accounts he controlled under the names of these fake companies. To facilitate the fraud, he created fictitious personas and email accounts, used a temporary phone number and a newly purchased cellphone to impersonate company representatives, and forged signatures of real individuals on fraudulent agreements submitted to Vornado.
Further, Solomon provided a fraudulent business certificate to a bank to open business accounts used in the scheme. The proceeds from the fraud were spent on luxury purchases, including a $4.55 million residence in Purchase, New York, a $3.6 million Upper East Side apartment in Manhattan, a country club membership, and a Porsche.
Solomon also submitted false information and a doctored bank statement to a mortgage lender to secure an $850,000 mortgage loan. Following his conviction, Solomon was remanded into custody.
In addition to the prison term, Solomon, 49, of New York City, was sentenced to three years of supervised release. The court ordered him to forfeit over $9 million in fraud proceeds, including his interests in the two luxury homes acquired with those funds, and to pay restitution.
Sean S. Buckley commended the investigative efforts of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service in uncovering the scheme. The prosecution was led by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Adam Z. Margulies, Rita K. Maxwell, Joe Zabel, and Daniel C. Richenthal, with support from paralegal specialists Saadhana Jakka and Olivia Sebade.
This case was handled by the General Crimes Unit of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York. The announcement was made in coordination with U.S. Attorney Jamie McDonald and FBI Assistant Director in Charge James C. Barnacle, Jr.
