X Claims Engineer Stole 6M Lines Of Code To Launch New Co.
By Editorial Team
X Corp. has filed a federal lawsuit accusing a former software engineer of stealing trade secrets to establish her own company. The lawsuit alleges that the engineer took advantage of the chaos following Elon Musk’s acquisition of the Twitter social media platform in April 2022 to download 6 million lines of proprietary source code.
The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, claims that the engineer’s actions constitute a breach of confidentiality and intellectual property theft. X Corp. is seeking damages and injunctive relief to prevent the dissemination of the stolen code.
The accused engineer, who was terminated from X Corp. prior to starting her new venture, is facing allegations of misappropriation of trade secrets and unfair competition. The lawsuit names Twitter Inc. as a related party due to the circumstances surrounding the acquisition.
The case is being handled by the law firm Zweiback Fiset on behalf of X Corp. The National Labor Relations Board is also involved in the investigation of the matter.
