U.S. Attorney’s Office Establishes Hotline to Report Election Interference and Campaign Disruptions

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Harrisburg has made available resources for individuals to report any interference with elections and political campaigns within its jurisdiction. This initiative reflects the Department of Justice’s ongoing commitment to deterring and addressing actions that undermine the democratic process.

Interference may include the presence of paid operatives who enter the district with the intent to disrupt campaigns, issue threats of violence, or otherwise interfere with the electoral process. The Department of Justice encourages anyone with information about such activities to come forward.

To facilitate reporting, the office has established hotline numbers specifically for allegations related to election interference and violations of citizens’ voting rights. These hotlines serve as a direct channel for the public to communicate concerns and provide information.

In addition to the local hotline, complaints regarding potential violations of federal voting rights laws can be submitted directly to the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. This can be done by calling 800-253-3931 or by completing a complaint form available online at https://civilrights.justice.gov/.

The Department of Justice advises that in cases involving crimes of violence or intimidation, individuals should immediately contact 911 before reaching out to federal authorities. State and local law enforcement agencies hold primary jurisdiction over polling places and typically can respond more rapidly to emergencies.

This comprehensive approach aims to ensure public confidence in the electoral process by providing clear avenues for reporting and responding to unlawful interference. The Department of Justice remains vigilant in protecting the fundamental right to vote and the integrity of campaigns.

Citizens are urged to remain alert and report any suspicious or unlawful conduct related to elections to help uphold democratic principles and the rule of law.
