By Editorial Team

A California law firm is urging an Austin federal judge to dismiss claims that it participated in unlawfully withholding $11 million in attorney fees from a Texas law firm that allegedly helped secure a nine-figure verdict against Walmart, arguing a Texas immunity law protects the Golden State firm from being held liable to non-clients.

The California law firm is seeking to have the lawsuit against them dismissed based on the protection provided by the Texas immunity law. The lawsuit alleges that the California firm withheld $11 million in attorney fees that were owed to a Texas law firm that assisted in securing a significant verdict against Walmart.

The case is currently before an Austin federal judge, and the California firm is arguing that they cannot be held liable to non-clients under the Texas immunity law.

Case Details:

  • Companies: Walmart Inc.
