Doris Chen has defied gender norms in a patriarchal environment and attained extraordinary achievements through diligence and perseverance. She started her career in Beiten Burkhardt Shanghai Office in 2006, and she was later seconded to GE Consumer & Industrial as China Counsel in 2009. In 2017, Doris joined Firmenich as a Legal Director and within just 7 years, she has risen through the ranks to become VP Legal for APAC, China & India for the merged company dsm-firmenich.
Doris has a strong business sense and commercial acumen which separates her from typical in-house lawyers, and which helped her to gain extraordinary compliment and respect from internal and external business stakeholders. Doris has developed a strategic approach to mitigate corporate risks in a more proactive and systematic way, i.e. Proactive Risk Management System, which has fundamentally changed the mindset of compliance and risk management within the company.
Doris has won a number of third party recgonitions including without limitation Legal500 GC Power List, Legal500 SE Asia Legal Team, Lexology Employment In-house Counsel, as well as 2025 ALB SEA Women Lawyer of the Year (in-house).
