Teen Owes $50K In Video Game Hacking Case

A Canadian teenager accused of hacking the online video game Rec Room, harassing other users, and circumventing bans has agreed to pay $50,000 to settle a civil suit in Washington federal court brought by the game’s developers.
The teenager has also agreed to stay off the game as part of the settlement. The case was resolved through a Consent Judgment and Injunction filed in court.
The civil suit was brought by the game developers against the teenager for his actions within the game, which included hacking, harassment, and violating the game’s terms of service.
Law360 reported on the case, highlighting the resolution that required the teenager to pay a significant sum and refrain from accessing the game in the future.
The legal proceedings involved law firms such as Arete Law Group, Kamerman Uncyk, and Miller Nash LLP. Companies like Discord Inc. were also involved in the case.
The U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington oversaw the case, which attracted attention due to the nature of the allegations and the resolution reached between the parties.
