Phone-Maker Oppo Seeks Removal from Apple Trade Secret Case

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Oppo has filed a request with a California federal judge to be dismissed from a lawsuit initiated by Apple Inc. The lawsuit accuses a former Apple employee of stealing trade secrets upon joining Oppo. Oppo argues that the case lacks any evidence that the company received or benefited from any trade secrets.
Law360 reported that Oppo’s legal team has formally requested the court to release the company from the ongoing legal battle with Apple. The case revolves around allegations that a former Apple employee took confidential information with him when he transitioned to Oppo.
According to the court documents, Oppo contends that Apple’s lawsuit fails to establish any connection between the alleged trade secret theft and Oppo’s involvement. The company asserts that there is no evidence to suggest that Oppo was aware of or utilized any trade secrets belonging to Apple.
Legal representatives from Jones Day, Kirkland & Ellis, Quinn Emanuel, and Steptoe LLP are involved in the case on behalf of the respective parties. Apple Inc. and Guangdong OPPO Mobile Telecommunications Corp. Ltd. are the primary companies named in the lawsuit.
The case is currently being heard at the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. The nature of the suit and the presiding judge’s details have not been disclosed to the public.
