Federal Circuit Upholds Samsung’s PTAB Victories in Audio Tech Patent Dispute
By Editorial Team
The Federal Circuit recently ruled in favor of Samsung in a patent dispute involving earpiece technology. The court supported most of the Patent Trial and Appeal Board’s decisions to invalidate claims in two patents challenged by Samsung. However, the Federal Circuit did revive two claims that Samsung had not requested the board to invalidate.
The patents in question are:
- 9,270,244 – System and method to detect close voice sources and automatically enhance situation awareness
- 9,491,542 – Automatic sound pass-through method and system for earphones
Law360 reported that the Federal Circuit’s decision favored Samsung over the earpiece technology patents. The court’s ruling is a significant development in the ongoing legal battle between Samsung and the patent holders.
The law firms involved in the case include Devlin Law Firm PC, Leach & Walker, and Mitchell & Shapiro. Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. was represented by its legal team in the dispute. The case was heard by the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.
This decision by the Federal Circuit highlights the complexities of patent litigation in the technology sector and the importance of thorough legal representation in such disputes.
